Our biodegradable-only policy for tributes is making progress but there are still some coming in with oases or bits of plastic or metal which we do not allow so please remember to adhere to our policy. They can either have a place round the edge of the circle, have a dedicated tree planted in the new wood area or a place in the same area beside our newly planted hedge. Our new dedicated tree area is proving popular and we have noticed an increased demand for interments of ashes so can now offer 3 alternatives for those who want this service.Unfortunately we suffered quite a lot of damage from storm Arwen and had to take down quite a lot of trees but we are slowly getting things put to rights and hope to have the affected trees replaced soon. This means a lot to us as it is awarded on the comments received from our customers and helps us to improve our service.

Everything in the coffin and on the body must be biodegradable, and a tree is used to mark the spot - no headstones allowed. For burial in the Avenue, the cemetery stipulates that a casket of untreated timber must be used and the body must not be embalmed.

Woodland burials are also providing a new source of income for Britain's hard-pressed farmers and are, say enthusiasts, a romantic and practical way to rebuild native woodlands. Ornate polished hardwood caskets are replaced by biodegradable cardboard coffins, or even wicker and cloth. In contrast to the formality and blandness of modern council cemeteries, "green" burial grounds feature young forests, copses and flower meadows. The Natural Death Centre in London estimates that hundreds of people are now being buried every month in cemeteries where headstones are replaced by trees such as birch, oak and rowan, or discreet wooden sculptures to mark out a grave. Alex Rankin's site, Clovery Woods of Rest, near Aberdeenshire, is the latest of more than 140 "green" cemeteries that have sprung up around Britain since the first opened nine years ago. Now a Scottish farmer has opened Britain's biggest "green burial ground", converting 15ha of farmland into a woodland cemetery with room for 12,000 graves. After decades of increasingly elaborate funerals, thousands of people are going back to basics, buying cardboard coffins and planting trees in place of headstones.
